Beth Barnes is a leading researcher in AI evaluations and alignment. She is the founder and CEO of METR (Model Evaluation & Threat Research), formerly known as ARC Evals, an independent nonprofit research organization focused on evaluating the safety of frontier AI systems.

Beth previously worked with the Chief Scientist at Google DeepMind on scaling laws to forecast deep learning progress. She also held a role at OpenAI, where she helped develop safety targets and evaluated scalable oversight techniques for alignment, including testing code models for potential misalignment prior to release.

In 2024, Beth was named to TIME's list of the 100 most influential people in AI.
