Shane Legg is co-founder and Chief AGI Scientist at Google DeepMind, where he leads the Technical AGI Safety team. He holds a PhD from the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research (IDSIA), where he proposed a formal definition of machine intelligence.

A recognized leader in artificial general intelligence, Shane has held research roles at the Swiss Finance Institute and UCL’s Gatsby Unit. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2019 and was named to TIME’s list of the 100 most influential people in AI in 2023.
